At the end of a country road there is a driveway. It leads past herds of goats and a pasture of miniature horses, past a tire swing hanging from a magnificent tree, past a man-made pond, up to a pea gravel entry court bordered by stone walls in front of a beautiful new farmhouse style home. This new home was placed atop a knoll to celebrate the simplicity of the open meadows which envelope it. The freeform pool is surrounded by a post and rail farm fence and minimal plantings to honor the natural countryside. The client’s programming requirements were simple as well; a fenced run for the dogs and a vegetable garden, which left plenty of room to take in the expansive views. In the evenings our clients retreat to a screened porch and fireplace to watch the fireflies begin their nightly ballet. Ah, the simple life…
